Which ring for which finger?
Alice de Maison Scarlett
There are different ways to wear rings. They can be stacked and combined, but they are very often worn on their own. Rings most often represent symbols, are subject to social conventions, or reflect a person’s personality. It can sometimes be difficult to choose which ring to wear on which finger. So I’m going to give you all the advice you need to wear your jewelry on the right finger and guide you in your choices regarding the size or material of the ring.

The little finger and creativity
The little finger is one of the fingers that wears rings the least often, whatever they may be. Yet this finger symbolizes dreams, memories, or creativity. Wearing a piece of jewelry on the little finger encourages inspiration and attracts ideas. What’s more, its position makes the ring more visible, as the little finger is not hidden by other fingers. The jewelry sits on the outside and is therefore more noticeable. I recommend wearing either thin gold or silver bands, or gemstone rings, on this finger.
As the color green is conducive to creativity, I suggest choosing emerald. But according to tradition, the ring most often worn on the little finger is the signet ring. Bold and highly visible on this finger, it was easier to use several centuries ago to seal an envelope with the family crest.
The ring finger and passion
When wondering which ring to wear on which finger, the ring finger is often the first finger that comes to mind. It is well known that this is where the iconic engagement ring and wedding band are worn. According to tradition, the wedding band is slipped onto the left ring finger, as it is directly connected to the heart. It is the finger of love and passion par excellence.
The band symbolizing eternal union is often made of gold or silver and is known for its simplicity and understated style. The right ring finger, which is talked about too little, represents determination. On this finger, you can opt for gemstones such as diamond, ruby, or white topaz.
The imposing middle finger
What finger is more suitable for wearing numerous rings than the middle finger? Thanks to its large size, it is perfect for accommodating a combination of several rings or wide pieces of jewelry. It is a finger that is perfectly suited to wearing rings, and it is often the most commonly used. Wearing jewelry in this spot encourages patience and instantly soothes. We often wear simple, fairly small rings with an uncluttered design on this finger.
However, for women, the middle finger is the perfect place to express themselves and reveal their personality. So let’s no longer hesitate to proudly wear rings that define us, whether they are bold or not. Steel or platinum jewelry will suggest a certain shyness and reserved nature. Rings with black or purple gemstones will convey a strong character, while alloy or silver will show your sensitivity.
The index finger and simplicity
The index finger is the most used finger in everyday life, and it is involved in almost all daily tasks. That is why I can only advise you to choose a simple ring for this finger, one that is fairly smooth and without overly prominent gemstones. Otherwise, you risk damaging your jewelry, and it will wear out more quickly. The index finger is therefore perfectly suited to a band, whether in gold, silver, or steel. It can also be set with small gemstones that will not get in the way of your daily life.
The index finger symbolizes power and the transmission of energy. Opal is therefore a particularly recommended material for rings worn on the index finger. Other more discreet pieces of jewelry, such as solitaire rings or eternity rings, will also enhance your index finger.
The thumb and strength
When looking to adorn your fingers with jewelry, the thumb is always the trickiest place to dress up. Why? Because we simply never know which ring to wear there. Like the index finger, the thumb is used a lot in everyday life, and it is difficult to choose a ring that will suit it.
First of all, you should know that, as with the neighboring finger, you should avoid adorning your thumb with a ring featuring an overly prominent stone, as it may be uncomfortable and could quickly become damaged. The thumb is the finger of strength. I therefore recommend wearing a pavé ring that is fairly bold but overall rather smooth.
Choose large rings that will instantly enhance your hands and give you a certain sense of power. Jewelry with blue or green gemstones will showcase this strength. Thus, emerald, sapphire, lapis lazuli, aquamarine, amber, topaz, and jade are the most suitable for adorning your thumb. Wearing a ring that forms a “block” will then surround you with a halo of energy.
What should I remember?
To choose a ring suited to each finger, you need to consider the symbolism of wearing a piece of jewelry on one finger or another, but that’s not all. It’s worth noting that rings are among the pieces of jewelry that reflect your personality the most, as hands are a part of the body that is used extensively in communication—a real tool in your social life.
That way, your hands will be the first thing your conversation partner notices. It is therefore important to choose carefully the rings that will adorn your fingers. Choose rings you like, that speak silently about you, but that are also practical and do not get in your way. And remember to adapt the ring size, or the color of the gemstone you choose, to each of your fingers.
