Pearls, sterling silver jewelry, curb chains, bohemian bracelets, mechanical watchesâno matter what piece you want to keep safe, there's a tailored solution for it, with something for everyone.
Men's jewelry, women's jewelry, compact travel pouches, or generous jewelry chests: let's talk about all these options.
If you want to organize your jewelry easily, find everything at a glance, showcase your favorite pieces to guests, and say goodbye to the chaos cluttering your nightstand or sitting dangerously close to the bathroom sink, follow these handy tips đ
Table of contents:
- Bring order to the chaos
- Divide into subcategories
- Part with what no longer serves you
- Keep your jewelry collection in one place
- Choose the ideal storage display
- And what about the jewelry you don't wear very often?
1. Bring order to the chaos
The very first step before shaking up any of your habits is sorting.I used to organize my jewelry in little pouchesâit wasn't really ideal, but at least each category had a dedicated spot. If that's not the case for you yet, start by laying out your entire jewelry collection across a large, flat surface.
Necklaces with necklaces, earrings with earrings, rings with rings, and so on. For now, don't worry about whether your necklaces are opera-length or chokers, whether your earrings are sleeper hoops, hoop earrings, or studs, or even if your rings are chunky signets or dainty bands đ The only thing that matters right now is sorting into main categories.
2. Divide into subcategories
Well, you probably saw this coming, but yes, logically, the next step is dividing this initial sort into subcategories. So now, bangles go with bangles (and cuffs, why not). Dainty chain bracelets go separately. And this strategy applies to every single type of jewelry.3. Part with what no longer serves you
Alright, brace yourself. It's a painful but truly necessary step: saying goodbye to all the "it's broken but I'll get it fixed one day" or "it's cheap costume jewelry that turned completely blue, but I love it too much." Basically, we're saying bye-bye to all the junk metal and everything that's no longer wearable.Don't worry, no one's asking you to throw away that super precious sapphire necklace inherited from Grandma Yvette đ”đ», even if it's broken. That one, you can definitely keep.
Generally speaking, though, it's the perfect time for a clean-out. Single leftover earrings must go, and rings that turn your fingers green should too. By the way, a little post-decluttering resolution: "Buy less, but buy better."
4. Keep your jewelry collection in one place
Whether you've chosen to store your jewelry in jewelry boxes, in jewelry cases or even in a presentation box, try, as much as possible, to keep them all in the same place. For the simple reason that chances are very high you'll forget where you stashed the restâmeaning the day you're looking for a specific piece, you'll search for hours before finally giving up.
So, if you picked your bedroomâwhether it's in a wardrobe drawer, atop your dresser, hanging on a jewelry tree, or in a trinket dish on your nightstandâkeep everything in the same room.
5. Choose the ideal storage display
Some jewelry pieces are more precious than others, or perhaps more delicate. Others, you rarely wearâif at allâyet you cherish them all the same?
We get it, we're the exact same way. I started from the premise that showcasing what I wear most often would be a great idea. It saves me from rummaging through every single one of my boxes and, generally speaking, since I increasingly choose jewelry that isn't really afraid of moisture, hanging them on a lovely displayâwall-mounted or placed on a piece of furnitureâwon't damage them at all.
Next, I make sure to pick the most suitable organizer. For my rings, I choose either to place them in a pretty trinket dish or slide them into one of the drawers of a jewelry box.
In fact, some boxes feature small compartments with velvet cushions, specially designed to hold your signet rings and bands.
Almost my entire necklace and pendant collection is hung up, simply to avoid spending hours untangling them (a problem I don't have with bib necklaces).
Long story short: you get the picture! It's up to you to think it through and pick the storage method that best suits your needs.
If I had to give you just one piece of advice, it would be to make sure you actually love this methodâthat way, you'll enjoy using it so much more.
Ring holders, necklace and bracelet stands, or even chests, glass boxes, and jewelry trees: you're truly spoiled for choice.
6. And what about the jewelry you don't wear very often?
Now's the time to bring up Grandma Yvette's precious gemstone necklace, or that gorgeous quartz watch gold-tone, unfortunately broken, but far too sentimental to give away or toss.A woman's jewelry represents so much more than simple decorative accessories, and we know it. So these treasured pieces must be carefully preserved, sheltered from moisture and life's little mishaps.
Why not display them under a glass cloche or cabinet, for instance? If you can't bear to part with them but can't wear them either, you might as well showcase them and turn them into genuine decor pieces.
A bust, for example, or a mannequin can be the perfect showcase to highlight the pieces you love, even if you don't wear them.
You get the idea. There are almost as many storage options as there are different personalities. The one truly important thing to remember is that the best method will be the one you approach like a game.
It needs to become a pleasure so that it lasts over time, keeping those good resolutions going strong.
Have fun with both styles and jewelry, but never forget to take good care of them!
